So this is Rocky who go that name because he was born on the rocks in the Harbor Seal rookery. All the harbor seals have been getting flushed off the beach. And then he found a little nook in the rocks that he either liked or could not figure how to get out of and stayed there for over a day before the tides got high enough to push him out. The bad part is tht while Mom was hanging around most of this time, she did not have room to get to him to nurse him.
The second photo is Rocky peeking around the rocks. He has been quiet active. The bottom photo shows his cute little face. I love the black around his nose and eyes. As you can see, he still has lots of long fur. That is an indication that he may be premature. Just like babies lose the hair on their bodies most of the time shortly before their birth (not including the head), harbor seals do as well. Many times, i can see wads of hair on the beach when the membranes burst during or after a birth. This pup was born on Saturday, the 18th around 1520. And this is Monday morning, the 20th, early in the morning. And lots of us have spent multiple hours watching trying to see if he is nursing. None of the probably 10 of us watching at different times have seen him nurse although there have been attempts.
