So the overwintering monarch have been gone from Pacific Grove for over a month now. I am still seeing one here and there every now and then. However, they do not seem to light much to nectar, so I am not able to catch enough of a view to know if the are males that are hanging around still. Hoping that they will get a chance to mate. Or if there are females that we know nothing about why they are here still instead of heading for the interior and milkweed.
But here are a few of the many close ups of attempted mating that I got when I went to Pismo Beach Beach State Park in mid Feb. Hard to believe that I will be waiting a year to see the next overwintering clusters.
